Polish up your English

”Polish Up Your English” has been designed to meet the needs of learners with Intermediate (B2) level of English to read texts in very different fields of general knowledge and improve their comprehension skills and vocabulary while also learning to ask questions in each of the 16 topics covered. The topics have been carefully chosen to enable learners to broaden their minds and general knowledge.

Taking into consideration the importance of lexical studies, vocabulary practice has been attached special importance throughout the book. The “vocabulary corpus” section at the beginning of each unit teaches vocabulary in clusters; thus teaching not only words and expressions but collocations as well. Vocabulary practice receives special importance in the drills as well. The key vocabulary is repeatedly stressed in the vocabulary exercises so that it can be learnt by heart. Meanwhile, TRUE-FALSE questions make the learner read the texts very closely and understand them.

In addition to reading comprehension and vocabulary, there is a “Conversation Questions” section at the end of each unit. This section contains a good number of conversation questions related to the topic of each unit. By studying these questions and trying to work the possible answers out one can get ready to ask and answer such questions.

The authors of this book have been teaching English at university level for years, and they have taught a lot of English course books and skills books in all four skills of language teaching. Their aim in designing such a book is to provide their colleagues and learners with a book which is different from the ones on the market.

“Vocabulary Corpus” and Reading texts have been designed by Oktay ESER; Conversation Questions have been compiled and exercises A, B and C have been written by Hasan Hüseyin ZEYREK; and exercises D, E, F, G and H have been written by Kenan DİKİLİTAŞ.

We hope this book will help both teachers of English and English learning people as a resource book as well as a course book. We would be delighted to receive your valuable suggestions about the book.
